Description
AKKR8 Outdoor Sensor A8 OTI
The OTI (O = Outdoor, T = Temperature, I = I/O) from AKKR8 is a professional-grade outdoor IoT sensor for temperature measurements and industrial applications with analog and digital I/Os. Equipped with AI/DI/DO (analog and digital inputs and a digital output) and a temperature sensor probe, it delivers highly accurate temperature measurements and is the perfect companion for industrial monitoring in harsh conditions or remote locations.
Rugged and energy-efficient design
The main unit is protected by a rugged IP65 housing, ensuring dust and water resistance, while the internal electronics operate efficiently to extend battery life and reduce maintenance needs. The M12 power connector guarantees secure connections under any conditions. The device has a built-in antenna to ensure signal integrity and a cable gland for electrical fittings or the temperature probe.
Each sensor is ready to deploy straight out of the box, providing immediate connectivity via LTE-M cellular networks. Data can be accessed through your preferred IoT platform or via AKKR8’s ready-made packages, which include the sensor, connectivity, and platform integration.
Sensors, inputs, connections
The AKKR8 Outdoor Sensor A8 OTI measures temperature via an optional sensor probe that provides precise and reliable readings. The analog interface is designed for a 0–20 mA current loop, with the input on a screw-type connector. The input transmits its value in mA to the IoT platform. All analog sensors must be supplied from an external power source. These are generally not suited for battery-operated applications if regular measurements are required.
The device measures once per hour, storing the data locally and sending it to the platform twice a day, where you can access operational data. The estimated battery life is 100 days, assuming separate power for the analog input. The measurement frequency can be adjusted as needed. Its rechargeable battery is environmentally friendly, eliminating the need for regular replacements.
All units are equipped with three digital inputs and one output. The first input can immediately wake the device, making it ideal for alarms. The other two inputs are designed for connecting additional sensors. This feature provides flexible integration for monitoring and alert systems.

Sensors
External Temperature Probes
AKKR8 supports external temperature probes (Dallas 1-wire) that can be connected to the screw terminals on the board with GND, DATA, and 3V3. The 1-wire interface has three screw terminal connections on the board, but it can also be used with devices that have two connections.
When using devices with three connections, the power supply pin should be connected to 3V3; otherwise, it can be ignored. There is already a resistor on the board, so you do not need to connect an additional one.
One-Wire Connection
The AKKR8 sensor is a 1-Wire master and is therefore expected to supply power to the external devices at 3.3 V. You should not supply the AKKR8 with 3.3 V from other devices via the Dallas 1-wire connection.
Multiple Sensor Support
Each 1-Wire slave device has a guaranteed unique address stored in a memory chip. This allows the AKKR8 to manage multiple devices of the same type without conflicts.
You can connect up to six Dallas 1-wire temperature sensors to a single master. Another advantage of Dallas 1-wire is that the signal is not affected by the cable resistance, although a maximum length of 25 meters is normally recommended.
DS18B20 Characteristics
Normal characteristics for a Dallas DS18B20 are that they are intended for a measurement range of -55°C to +125°C, with an accuracy of ±0.5°C in the range of -10°C to +85°C.
Analogue Input (0–20 mA)
The AKKR8 Indoor Sensor A8 ITHB features an analogue interface designed for 0–20 mA current loop sensors. It supports both active and passive current loop configurations, providing flexibility for integration with a wide range of industrial and environmental sensors.
Wiring and Connection
For an active current loop sensor, connect the positive output of the sensor to the positive terminal of the AKKR8 input and the negative to the negative terminal.
When using a passive current loop sensor, an external power supply must be added to energize the loop (the required voltage depends on the sensor specification). In this configuration, the AKKR8 can be connected on either the high-side or low-side of the loop. The positive terminal must always feed current into the AKKR8, while the negative terminal provides current out of the unit.
GPIO Power Control
The AKKR8 GPIO interface can be configured to power the connected analogue sensor. This allows the system to activate the sensor only during measurement cycles, significantly reducing overall power consumption.
This functionality is optional and has to be programmed before delivery.
